Row over Mayor of York's plane tickets
7:24am 6th May 2010
Despite York being a cash strapped council, it forked out nearly £6,000 of taxpayers money during the ash cloud crisis to fly our Lord Mayor home.
John Galvin was stuck out in China with a colleague and told the next available flight would be in three weeks time. They weren't prepared to wait, so the authority spent YOUR cash and flew them back business class.
Some residents are now calling for an apology, saying our cash-strapped-council shouldn't be paying out for first class flights.
John Galvin has told Minster fm he had a number of duties to perform in York, including a citizenship ceremony, a civic dinner in the Mansion House, and acting as the returning officer for the General Election.
