More Than 20 People Hit by "Selby Council" Scam Calls

More than twenty people in Selby district have been hit by a scam call claiming to be from the council.

The calls ask people about an accident that was reported to Selby District Council.

The council has been contacted by more than twenty people and has reported the calls to the police.

It's advising people who get these calls to report them to police on 101.

A full statement from Selby Council reads:

"Our Customer Contact Centre has today received a number of calls today from residents who have been targeted in scam phone calls incidents.

"More than twenty separate incidents have been logged with the council and these details have been passed to the police.

"All residents should be on their guard and be aware we would not contact them in this way.

"Residents report that the calls ask them about having an accident that was reported to Selby District Council.

"Anyone contacted in this way should not give their details and should contact the police on the non-emergency number 101."
