North Yorkshire Police are appealing for witnesses and information about a single-vehicle collision on the A64 at Whitwell-on-the-Hill – the main route between York and Scarborough - which resulted in the death of the driver.
The crash happened on the east-bound carriageway at about 12.30am on Sunday 7 December 2014 and involved a black Mercedes car.
It is believed the car was in the outside lane of the dual carriageway when it collided with the barrier in the central reservation and the vehicle overturned.
The driver, a 26-year-man from the Malton area, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Three passengers were taken to York District Hospital by ambulance. A 22-year-old woman from Malton with serious leg injuries, an 18-year-old woman from Malton with neck and spinal injuries, and a 29-year-old man from the Knaresborough area with cuts and bruises.
The section of road was closed until around 7am on Sunday while the emergency services tended to the casualties and to allow the police to carry out a full examination of the fatal collision scene.
Witnesses to the collision or anyone who recalls seeing a black Mercedes car in the area prior to the incident, are urged to call North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2, and ask for the Major Collision Investigation Team. Please quote incident number 12140211189.
