Detectives in York have released a CCTV image of a vital witness following an assault in the city.

It occurred in the early hours of Sunday 27 July 2014, on Coney Street.

The victim, a 23-year-old York man, was not physically injured as a result of the incident.

The man officers need to trace is described as white, with a slim build and short hair. At the time he was wearing a light coloured polo shirt with horizontal stripes and light coloured trousers.

Detective Sergeant Mark Jackson, of York CID, said: “Although the man was not physically injured as a result of this assault, he was naturally left shaken by the experience.

“If you are the man captured on camera, I urge you to come forward and contact the police as you may have vital information which could help this enquiry.

“I am also keen to speak to anyone who recognises him and ask them to get in touch.”

Anyone who can assist with this enquiry should contact York CID on 101, select option 2 and ask for the department by name. Alternatively, information can be emailed to yorkcid@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk.

Or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111, quoting reference number 12140125332.
