A scheme allowing parents to check if sex offenders live near them is being
rolled out nationally.

Sarah's Law will be extended across England and Wales from next year following trials in four areas.

It's named after Sarah Payne, the 8-year old girl murdered by a convicted sex offender in 2000.

Critics say it will encourage vigilantism but Home Office minister Alan Campbell says there are safeguards in place.Ministers claim a it has kept up to 60 children safe.

North Yorkshire is 1 of 18 forces that's due to adopt the scheme in August.
Detective's have told Minster FM...

"These new arrangements will empower parents and carers in their ability to protect their kids. It is essential they have some informed control over who they allow close to their children."
