British Transport Police Appeal For witnesses Of Assault On Train Between York and Scarborough

A number of passengers travelling on the 8.35pm York to Scarborough service witnessed the incident which took place just after 9.30pm on Thursday, 16 October 2014.
PC Ian Hancox the investigating officer, said:
"Passengers on board the service alerted the train guard after they witnessed a man being verbally abusive to a female he was travelling with. He then physically assaulted her."
A 40-year-old man from Scarborough was arrested in connection with the incident. He has been released on police bail pending further enquiries until Wednesday, 5 November.
PC Hancox added:
"Unfortunately the passengers who alerted the guard left the train before providing their details to officers. We would really like to trace them as they have important information which will assist this investigation."
"If that was you, please contact us. We would also like to hear from anyone else who may have been travelling on the service and witnessed what took place."
