Serious Sexual Assault in York – Were You On Castlegate or Clifford Street?

Police 7

6:26am 26th August 2014

The assault occurred at around 9.15pm pm on Thursday 21 August 2014, in the Friargate area. Officers need to speak to anyone who was either on Castlegate or Clifford Street, between 9pm and 9.30pm that evening.

The victim, a 19-year-old woman, had just left Yates Wine Lodge and was heading towards the old fire station when she was approached from behind and sexually assaulted in an alleyway off Friargate.

The suspects are both described as Asian and aged in their mid-twenties. One of them had spiky hair and a very thin build. The second man is described as having a chubby build.

Detective Inspector Alan Rowan, of York CID, said:

“If you were on either Castlegate or Clifford Street, or accessed Friargate from either direction, between 9pm and 9.30pm on Thursday 21 August, and you have not already contacted the police, it is essential that you do so straight away."

“Even if you do not believe that you witnessed anything, it is still possible you have vital information which could help my enquiries and I urge you to get in touch as soon as possible.”

Anyone who can assist the investigation should contact York CID on 101, select option 2 and ask for the department by name. Alternatively, information can be emailed to yorkcid@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk.

Or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111, quoting reference number 12140142651.
