Unemployment in York at Lowest Level Since Modern Records Began

Unemployment in York is at the lowest level since modern records began in 1992.

New figures out this morning show 1,516 people in the city were claiming Job Seekers' Allowance in July, down from 1,931 in June.

The unemployment rate of 1.1% in York is equal to that of the record low from December 2004.

Julia Davis has been a manager at York's Job Centre Plus for four years and is pleased with the fall.

In North Yorkshire, the number of people out of work is 4,376 which at a rate of 1.2% is the lowest since June 2008.
