Malton Food Market Hailed A Success
4:44pm 12th August 2014
August’s Monthly Food Market in Malton was another great success, say the event’s organisers.
Along with regular favourites such as live music from Malton White Star Band, a wide selection of food and drink stalls and free parking, no less than three different cookery demonstrations took place.
Anthony Gilham from the New Malton, Tom Naylor-Leyland, Director of Malton Food Lovers Festival and Florian Poirot of FP Macaroons enthralled audiences with a variety of live cookery demos, which included a full three course meal, two delightful Italian-inspired dishes and elegant swan sugar sculptures.
Tom Naylor-Leyland said: “It was a delight to demonstrate food preparation in front of a live and enthusiastic audience!
“As I have had lessons at Malton Cookery School, I was very well prepared. My dishes included a summer minestrone soup and a shellfish pasta dish.
“I bought all the ingredients in Malton, including fresh shellfish, Fellini pasta, and fresh herbs, so people could easily prepare the dish at home after visiting the shops!”
Anthony Gilham, chef at the New Malton pub, which is listed in the Michelin Guide, prepared a starter of pan fried pigeon, a main course of smoked cod loin and chorizo butter and a pudding of French-toasted brioche with banana and honey.
Florian Poirot, who also had his stall FP Macaroons at the market, created delicate swans out of sugar, showing his highly-skilled craft at its best.
With just under 3,000 visitors, the market attracted food lovers and holiday-makers to its August outing, with the next one taking place on Saturday 13th September.
The remaining dates after September are: Saturday 11th October, Saturday 8th November and Saturday 13th December.
