Family of facebook hoaxer say sorry to Claudia's family

5:24am 19th February 2010

The father of missing chef Claudia Lawrence says he has accepted an apology from the mother of an internet hoaxer who pretended to be his daughter.

The apology was printed in an Oxford newspaper and included a note from 18-year-old Matthew Biel's mother, saying the whole family was "sickened" by his actions.

Peter Lawrence said posting the fake message was a "terrible thing to do", but added that he was comforted by the message.

The message appeared on the social networking site back in November.

The message on facebook read "Hi everyone just let you be aware that I am ok and I am safe and sound. Speak to you all soon. Claudia."

Following a police inquiry, an 18 year old has been arrested today and admitted making the malicious communication and wasting police time.

Officers cautioned him and say the matter is now dealt with - so now court action is needed.
