Malton Food Market Hailed A Success
3:29pm 14th July 2014
Saturday’s Malton Monthly Food was a bumper affair with over 35 stalls selling their wares from 9am to 3pm.
While regular stall-holders did a brisk trade, new ones joined the bustling market, which takes place on the second Saturday of every month.
Delectable new flavours and foods included ice cream, freshly-made fruity marshmallow and gluten-free goodies to tempt the taste buds.
July’s free cookery demonstration, inside the Milton Rooms, featured Julia Mason and the team from the Blacksmith’s Arms at Westow, just outside Malton.
The cookery demos included some Blacksmith’s Arms favourites such as Carpaccio of beef, stone bass on a seafood risotto, scallops with homemade black pudding and rump of lamb with roasted vegetables and a red currant and mint jus.
Julia said: “Malton Monthly Food Market is known for its top quality stalls, friendly atmosphere and dedication to attracting customers to Yorkshire’s Food Capital.
“We were thrilled to be part of the market and prepare fresh food in front of a live audience. The cookery demonstrations were very well attended, and it was an ideal chance to show local food at its best.”
Market organiser Tom Naylor-Leyland said: “July’s market was like a mini-version of the annual Malton Food Lovers Festival, with blue skies and sunshine. Malton Monthly Food Market continues to promote top quality local produce here in Yorkshire’s Food Capital. Its location in the market place means that it works very well in tandem with Malton’s Saturday Market that is held there every week.
“Wentworth Street car park was very busy, indicating that Saturday’s markets helped bring people into town to experience some ‘retail therapy’ as well as sampling the delights of the producers’ stalls.”
Malton White Star Band provided live music during the event, while Malton CIC provided free tea or coffee to everyone who made a bakery purchase, though donations were welcome.
The remaining dates for this year’s markets are; Saturday 9th August; Saturday 13th September; Saturday 11th October; Saturday 8th November and Saturday 13th December2014.
