(Updated 10:27am 12th July 2014)

York City are going into their first pre-season friendly this afternoon, just 8 weeks since the last match of last season.  The Minster Men are welcoming Yorkshire neighbours Sheffield Wednesday.

Manager Nigel Worthington has signed 8 fresh faces for the squad so far including new goalkeeper, Jason Mooney, two new full-backs Femi Ilesanmi and Marvin McCoy, striker, Jake Hyde, two new wide men Anthony Straker and Lindon Meikle, a new centre half in Dave Winfield; and in midfield  Luke Summerfield. This impressive array of new signings teamed with players who are already at the club promises another exciting season for The Minster Men.

Sheffield Wednesday are managed by head coach Stuart Gray and finished off last season in 16th place in The Championship. Despite this Wednesday finished the season with the sixth highest average attendance in the Championship with an impressive 21,239. Sheffield Wednesday haven't played a competitive fixture at Bootham Crescent since 1977.

There are strong links between York City and Sheffield Wednesday, as Nigel Worthington played for The Owls between 1984 and 1994, making 417 appearances and scoring 417 goals. Nigel was also a key player in the Wednesday side that won the league cup in 1991.

Kick off is at 3pm at Bootham Crescent.
Ticket prices are £12 adults and £6 concessions.
