7:29am 9th July 2014
The Northern Gas Networks Yorkshire Marathon Corporate Relay on October 12th will see scores of business people battle it out to show that theirs is the fastest firm in the region.
The event, part of the sold-out Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon, was officially launched yesterday outside York Minster with a team from Northern Gas Networks who are hoping to put their foot on the gas and leave their rivals behind!
David Gill, Director of Stakeholder Relations for Northern Gas Networks said:
“We are delighted to be sponsoring the Yorkshire Marathon Corporate Relay this year, and are pleased to see so many organisations once again signing up for the challenge."
“It’s a really special event which raises a great deal of money for a variety of worthwhile causes including the Jane Tomlinson Appeal and I’m pleased that we can offer our support. The atmosphere on the day is guaranteed to be buzzing!”
Companies, sports clubs, groups of friends and other organisations will take part in the challenge which splits the 26.2 miles into six legs of between three and six miles, making the event accessible to runners of all abilities.
Among the entrants already signed up for 2014 are Walker Morris, St John the Baptist Church in Stamford Bridge, Joseph Rowntree Foundation, Redmayne-Bentley, Hiscox, Minster FM, Charterhouse Recruitment and Brough Runners.
The corporate challenge was a popular feature of last year’s inaugural Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon and attracted a star-studded field with competitors including gold-winning paralympian Hannah Cockroft, BBC Look North news and weather presenter Keeley Donovan and actor Chris Chittell – Eric Pollard in ‘Emmerdale.’ More celebrities are limbering up for the challenge in 2014.
Event lead Lisa Ashcroft said:
“We are thrilled to welcome Northern Gas Networks on board as our corporate relay sponsor for 2014."
“With all general places in The Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon already sold out, the corporate relay is a great way to be involved on the day."
“Last year’s relay proved very popular and gave the marathon an added dimension. It is encouraging that so many different organisations have already signed up to take part.”
NHS leisure organisation Hassra won the open category in last year’s relay in a time of 2hrs 46mins 20secs. Legal firm Addleshaw Goddard triumphed in the mixed category with a time of 2:58:37, while Fast Feet on the Run won the female category in 3:30:53.
