York College Passes Quality Inspection

York College

3:50pm 27th June 2014

The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) has confirmed the quality and standards of provision at York College following its review in April 2014.

A team of QAA reviewers visited York College and judged that its academic standards, the enhancement of its student learning opportunities, and the quality of information about its learning opportunities all meet UK expectations.

The quality of learning opportunities at York College was commended by the review team meaning that, in this area, the College was deemed to have exceeded UK expectations.

The review identified a number of examples of good practice. These include:

  • the variety of ways the College enables students to develop their professional potential
  • the effective use of professional learning communities and breakfast briefings that allow staff across the College to share experiences of what works well.

The review also highlighted the comprehensive support for tutors and students in creating and maintaining effective relationships with a wide range of employers.

The review made just one recommendation for improvement, namely that the College should articulate and share its approach to enhancing student learning opportunities.

Bob Saynor, Assistant Principal (Lifelong Learning and HE) at York College said: 'We are all delighted with these exceptional outcomes from our QAA Higher Education Review.

'The report clearly reflects the high quality support and enhancement that the College provides for our higher education students as they progress into future learning or employment.

'It is wonderful to have such a glowing report from QAA together with our "Outstanding" grade from the Ofsted inspection, and we are grateful for the support we receive from the local community, employers and families which is so important and ensures that we can continue to provide an outstanding experience for all our students.’

A successful review means that York College can display the QAA Quality Mark, indicating to UK and international students that the university/college meets national requirements for standards and quality.

The review team included Professor John Baldock (University of Kent), Hannah Reilly (a student reviewer from Cardiff Metropolitan University), Dr Philip Davies (Bournemouth and Poole College) and Steve Evans (The University of Law).
