Thirsk & Malton MP Pushes for A64 Improvements
3:45pm 27th June 2014
Thirsk & Malton MP Anne McIntosh will meeting representatives of the Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) for North and East Yorkshire and York and Ryedale, Scarborough and Hambleton District Councils, North Yorkshire County Council and local businesses to press for the upgrade of the A64 between York through Ryedale to Filey and Scarborough.
Anne McIntosh says
"Road safety needs to be improved and congestion reduced across the whole of this route on the A64. Monies will become available from the Local Growth Fund in 2015 onwards for road improvement."
“The support of the LEP and local authorities as well as local businesses is absolutely imperative to ensure the earliest possible start of this project, finally enabling an upgrade of the A64.”
"Therefore I shall be pressing for an early decision from the LEP for the A64 to benefit as a major artery for economic development and to improve road safety and reduce congestion."
The MP raised the issue in Parliament yesterday asking Business Minister Michael Fallon:
"The Business Secretary gave us the welcome news that the local growth fund will come on stream next year. Infrastructure is the key to allowing local businesses to develop. Will there be enough money in the local growth fund to improve and upgrade the A64 along its whole route from York through Malton to Scarborough?"
The Minister gave this response to Anne McIntosh:
"I am afraid that my hon. Friend will have to be patient for a few weeks longer before we announce the local growth deal for the local enterprise partnership covering her constituency, but I am aware that that is one of the projects that the local enterprise partnership wants to prioritise."
