9:17am 16th June 2014
The figure has fallen from just over 9,800 in 2010 to 8,700 in 2014.
The East Riding has almost half of the total, with around 2000 in York, 1100 in Selby and 460 in Ryedale.
The government says the figures show more parents are now able to provide for their children.
