VIDEO: Watch Selby's New Leisure Centre Being Built
11:40am 3rd June 2014
People can watch the new leisure centre in Selby take shape as a new time lapse video of the construction has been published.
It shows how the Scott Road construction site is developing. In the video the new building's steel structures can be seen being installed and viewers can see work on the site progressing through all weathers.
Work on the project, supported by Sport England and National Lottery funding, began in February and is being delivered by Wates Construction. When completed next year, this state-of-the-art facility will deliver quality leisure services for the people of Selby.
The video was put together by WLCT in partnership with Wates Construction, Vanguard Security and A41 IT Services.
Cllr Gillian Ivey, Deputy Leader of the Council, said, "This is a really innovative way for residents across the district to see exactly how work at the site is progressing.
"I particularly enjoyed being able to see the steel structure rise up and I'm looking forward to watching it take shape over the next few months," she added.
The new leisure centre will include a health and fitness centre with up to 100 stations of equipment and dedicated changing facilities; a class and exercise studio; a refurbished synthetic sports pitch; a multi-use space for large classes, activities and sports such as judo, dance sessions, children's activities; meetings and private hire; plus a sauna and steam room. There will also be two swimming pools - a training pool and a six-lane 25m pool.
