(Updated 10:23am 18th February 2010)

Two closed refuse tips in York may have contaminated the land, posing a threat to our health and the environment.

It's believed the council owned sites, at Chapman's Pond in Dringhouses and on land at the back of Westfield Primary School in Acomb, could have become hazardous. It all as a result of landfill waste.

Councillor Anne Reid's urging parents not to panic..

DEFRA's now given the city's Environmental Protection Unit £51,000 to investigate.
