Pocklington Businesses Urged to Join New Business Group

10:11am 12th May 2014

The council and the Professional Voice of East Riding Businesses (ProVERB), a newly-established voluntary group of small business owners, will host a morning event at Driffield Rugby Club, 9..30am-12noon, on Wednesday, 4 June as part of Humber Business Week..

ProVERB’s aim is to champion the work of micro-businesses and the event will provide an informal forum for people to network, share experiences and discuss economic issues..

The council is a passionate advocate of small and mediums sized enterprises (SMEs), which are vital to the lifeblood of the East Riding economy, providing employment for thousands of people and bringing millions of pounds into the area..

Councillor Jane Evison, cabinet portfolio holder for economy, investment and inequalities at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “There are more than 12,500 businesses operating in the East Riding, with 87 per cent of these (11,125) classified as micro-firms, with 0-10 employees, and a further 9..5 per cent (1,208) indentified as small firms of between 11-49 employees..

“By helping to establish a voluntary organisation like ProVERB and by hosting events with highly-knowledgeable guest speakers, such as David, the council is providing practical advice and support for small businesses which is vital in helping them flourish and prosper..”

As well as providing an excellent networking opportunity, the event will feature a lively and entertaining presentation by guest speaker David Watkins, also known as ‘The Naked Entrepreneur’, who will bare all about his experiences in business, from start-up to enduring loneliness and finding help to develop for growth..

The event is free but pre-booking is essential, visit www..eventbrite..com/e/the-naked-entrepreneur-tickets-11032371119
