York Racecourse Meets "Not Affected" by Storage Building Fire
4:46pm 7th May 2014
York Racecourse says it's events will not be affected by a fire at the Knavesmire this morning.
Fire crews from York, Acomb and Huntington were called out to a fire to a brick building used for storage, near the race course at 9.42am.
No-one was hurt in the incident and York Racecourse says events at the Knavesmire will not be affected. In a statement, James Brennan from the racecourse said:
"There has been a small fire in a perimeter building this morning. There was never any threat to life and no-one was injured, which is the most important news."
"The building affected is part of the workshops for the groundstaff and thanks to the prompt response of North Yorkshire Fire Service and our own team, the incident has been contained. No racegoer buildings have been affected. The track looks forward to the return of racing on Wednesday 14 May and this incident will not affect the staging of the Dante Festival."
