York's First Ever Triathlon Takes Place.

Swimmers, Runners and Cyclists are to gather at York's Sport Village today to take part in the city's first ever triathlon.

Around 400 people have entered the competition sponsored by the Jane Tomlinson Appeal.

A spokesman for York Sport Village said: "We are delighted that our facilities will be used for the triathlon.

"The event has created alot of excitement with both staff and customers with a number of them signing up to take part."

The aspiring athletes who signed up individually, or as part of a team of three for the event set within the University of York, Heslington Campus have the choice of two race options available to suit all abilities.

Entrants can choose between doing a 200m swim, 10k cycle and 2.5k run or a 400m swim, 20k cycle and 5k run.

Organisers UK Triathlon added: "We are extremely excited about our first event in York and look forward to returning year on year as the event grows."
