Castle Howard Road Development Plans Seek Community Views.

The Fitzwilliam Malton Estate is seeking the views from the local community on proposals to develop a 46 acre site on the outskirts of Malton.
The development which plans to build up to 500 new homes is to be located on the edge of the historic market town, between Castle Howard Road and Middlecave Road, with the A64 forming its western boundary.
The site would be built as a ‘walkable’ community, favouring the pedestrian over car users.
Roddy Bushell, Manager of the Fitzwilliam Malton Estate, said: “Malton Estate has a long term interest in Malton and wishes to preserve Malton’s unique and timeless character.
“Members of the public are welcome to attend the consultation event and to contribute ideas for these proposals; what we have at the moment is not ‘set in stone’.
"We are keen to evolve the development in line with residents’ vision of the future of Malton.”
The Castle Howard Road development would be designed by Master Planner Leon Krier and architect Jan Maciag, whose full-colour drawings give an impression of how this new quarter of Malton could look.
Mr Krier’s design would take into account characteristics of other North Yorkshire villages, which often encompass a village green, a main square, and streets that include a gentle sweep of village housing.
Mr Bushell said: “This development would create a vibrant place to live, and would be an attractive place to call ‘home’, including some sheltered housing for the over 55’s.
“An unusual feature proposed is for the development to include some employment space with a mix of units encouraging new business start-ups.”
He also added: “As yet, we have not decided on a name for this proposed new area of Malton – we would like to hear people’s suggestions.”
The consultation event will include information panels and representatives of the development team will attend.
Views expressed at the consultation will be taken into account when the master plan is revised ready for submission with the planning application next month.
Members of the public are invited to suggest improvements and see the proposals for themselves today at 12 Market Street, Malton, between 10am and 5pm.
For anyone unable to attend the consultation on Saturday, there will be a second opportunity to comment on the proposals directly to Ryedale District Council when the application is submitted formally next month.
The information panels will also be on view at 12 Market Street for up to two weeks after Saturday’s event.
