Tadcaster Road Tesco Extra is one of the UK's top ten fundraising stores for the company's National Charity Partnership with Diabetes UK.

Tadcaster Road Tesco, in York, has raised over £19,100 towards the £10 million raised nationally through the partnership, putting them second out of all 3,146 stores across the UK.

Tesco colleagues and customers have raised the incredible amount within the first twelve months of the partnership and the money is still being counted.

Colleagues at Tadcaster Road have taken on challenges and held fundraising events in stores. They have connected with the community, worked with local pantomime cast to fundraise in store and two members of staff have even signed up to a Machu Picchu trek– all to raise money for Diabetes UK.

Linda Wood, Diabetes UK's Northern and Yorkshire Regional Manager, said: "We are delighted Tadcaster Road is second in the UK's top ten fundraising stores. It is an incredible achievement and a tribute to all the colleagues' hard work.

"We know that all the Tesco stores in Yorkshire have been working hard to raise money for Diabetes UK but Tadcaster Road has taken one of the top spots with their incredible amount.

"We are hugely thankful for this fantastic fundraising effort and to all of those customers who have dipped into their pockets.

"As the partnership continues there will be more activities taking place in Tesco stores across Yorkshire and we hope local people continue to support our work in supporting those living with or at risk of developing diabetes."

The £10 million has been invested in; developing a Type 1 diabetes vaccine, the biggest public awareness campaign on Type 2 diabetes, supporting new diagnosed people at Living with Diabetes Days, helping 70,000 people to find out if they are at risk of getting Type 2 diabetes, extending the opening hours of the diabetes helpline and providing over one million people with information about diabetes.

Sheffield Infirmary Tesco Superstore is also one of the top ten stores in the UK.
