Tickets for York Stage of Tour De France Snapped Up In Four Hours
4:27pm 23rd January 2014
All 20 thousand tickets to watch the start of the York leg of the Tour de France in July have been snapped up in four hours.
They were made available through the York Racecourse website at 9 o clock this morning.
Cllr Sonja Crisp, City of York Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism, said: “What an amazing response! It just shows what an appetite there is for this, the world’s largest single sporting event, in one of the world’s most beautiful cities! We’re very grateful to York Racecourse for the great job they did issuing the tickets.
“We’re being asked about the possibility of more tickets being released. Everyone’s safety has to be the priority and we have to consider the quality of their experience, so a decision will be made later in Spring.
“Meanwhile there are still many, many more opportunities to enjoy the race around the city which are yet to be announced. We want as many people as possible to take part, watch the action and soak up what promises to be an amazing buzz on 6 July!”
The city council says it's waiting to see if anyone returns their ticket before deciding whether to make more available.
