£2 Million North Yorkshire Bus Cuts Given The Go-Ahead

Plans to cut subsidies for bus services in North Yorkshire have been approved.

Members of North Yorkshire County Council's Executive agreed reductions of around £2 million, as the authority faces major cuts in funding from the Government.

The authority said the reductions are based on a policy which aims to "ensure that as many communities as possible continue to have access to a public or community transport service, and that these services give value for money".

It is now considering various options to help reduce the impact on passengers, which include working with community transport groups.

The council will also lobby the Government over concessionary fares, investigate alternative sources of funding in communities where local buses are not provided commercially and conduct an in-depth review of bus services to see how they can be made more sustainable.
