Rodent Warning for East Riding

9:21am 19th January 2014
(Updated 11:20am 19th January 2014)

There has been a rise of rats and mice moving closer to homes and businesses in search for food and warmth due to the cold winter weather.

The warning for East Riding of Yorkshire residents comes as the volume of calls to the council about rodent problems increases.

Paul Bellotti, head of Housing, Transportation and Public Protection, told Minster FM: “People who drop food in the street or put feed out for birds provide steady food supplies for rodents, giving them ideal conditions to nest and breed in nearby buildings.”

People are being advised to use litter bins to get rid of unwanted food and to not over-feed local wildlife to help prevent unwanted furry friends setting up camp in their homes.
