York Marathon Places Sell Out in Ten Minutes

Yorkshire Marathon 1

11:04am 6th January 2014

The 2014 Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon in York is now completely sold out.

With exceptional demand, all remaining places in the event on Sunday 12th October were snapped up today in just 10 minutes.

Today’s clamour for places follows the sell-out of all Priority Pre-sale spots following the marathon’s official launch on Friday [Jan 3rd].

Lisa Ashcroft, The Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon Event Lead, said: “Wow. We thought it was fantastic when last year’s marathon sold out in only three days – to have sold out this year in the space of just a few hours is remarkable.

“Congratulations to everyone who got a place – and thank you for supporting the event. The marathon was a huge success last year and this year’s will be even bigger and better.”

The only places now available are via the Ultimate season Ticket – which includes a place in the marathon and all 4 Run For All Asda Foundation 10Ks. Go to www.runforall.com for more information.

Would-be runners can secure a place via some 40 charities which have a number of spots in the event. Go to www.theyorkshiremarathon.com to see a full list of the charities with places available.

Alternatively a waiting list is now operating. Places will be allocated if and when registered participants withdraw. Go to www.theyorkshiremarathon.com to register.

Capacity in this year’s marathon was increased from 6,100 to 7,000. But the event was still massively over-subscribed following its successful debut which brought in £2m for good causes and a boost

of at least £1m for the local economy.

The Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon is proudly supported by UK home and broadband provider Plusnet, which recently signed a three year sponsorship deal for the event.

Nick Rawlings, Commercial & Marketing Director at Plusnet, said: “We couldn’t have wished for a better start to the 2014 campaign.

“It just goes to show that The Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon has already become a ‘must do’ event in the sporting calendar and for those lucky enough to secure a running place, we wish you the best of luck with the training over the coming months.”

The Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon is also backed by the City of York Council, the University of York, Asda Foundation, the Yorkshire Post, Runner's World, Marathon Talk and Run247.com.

The marathon is organised by the team behind the popular Jane Tomlinson’s Run For All 10K series and Leeds Half Marathon, and is part of the lasting legacy of the late Jane Tomlinson CBE, who raised

almost £2million by completing a series of amazing sporting challenges, despite being diagnosed with incurable cancer.

Runners taking part in the marathon are encouraged to raise funds for a cause close to their heart and especially the event’s official partner charities – Martin House Children's Hospice, Macmillan Cancer Support, Yorkshire Cancer Research, Parkinson's UK, the Haven, CLIC Sargent, Candlelighters, St Leonard's Hospice, Sue Ryder Care and the Jane Tomlinson Appeal.
