£40,000 Caravan Damaged in Bungled Hillam Burglary Attempt

Police are investigating after a caravan was damaged during an unsuccessful attempt to steal it in Hillam.
At around 7.20pm on Thursday 2 January 2013, thieves tried to take a Bessacar caravan from outside a property on Hillam Hall View using a dark-coloured 4x4 vehicle, possibly and Isuzu trooper.
The thieves failed to secure the caravan, which is worth £40,000, to their vehicle properly and as they set off it became unhitched and rolled into a neighbour’s tree, ripping the glass solar panel from the roof.
The damage caused to the caravan is estimated at around £25,000.
Officers are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or knows who is responsible to contact them with information.
