People living in Market Weighton, Stamford Bridge and Pocklington are being advised to stay safe when they're out drinking over the New Year period.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is urging revellers not to drink too much, stay with friends and avoid using unlicensed taxis to get home.

Tina Holtby, from the council, said: " It's really important to plan ahead.

"Vehicles will have plates on the back, ovals on the side which will say the name of the company. All drivers, if they're licensed, will have a badge with a photograoph on as well.

"So, we'd ask people, before they get into vehicles, just to check for those three things," she said.
