Tesco Still Committed to Selby Supermarket

Tesco says it's still committed to building a new supermarket in Selby, despite pulling out of plans for a new store in Scarborough last week.
The plans for a new supermarket on it's Portholme Road site, which would also build on part of the storage depot and Civic Centre site were first submitted in 2009. The plans for a supermarket of 8,530 square metres plus petrol station, car park and landscaping were approved in 2011 but then put on hold because of the recession.
Tesco were then given more time to build the new supermarket in March this year. After the Scarborough plans were cancelled last week, concerns were raised the proposals in Selby might also be ditched. However, Tesco tell Minster FM this is not the case. In a statement, the company said:
“We remain committed to building a replacement store to serve the Selby community. We apologise that this has taken longer than anticipated and we are reviewing our timescales to identify when we can start.”
