No Forced Digital Switchover for Minster FM Listeners
3:39pm 16th December 2013
Minster FM listeners won't be forced to buy new digital radios, it's been announced today by Communications Minister Ed Vaizey.
The average home was looking at a bill of hundreds of pounds if a date was set for a DAB switchover.
York Outer MP Julian Sturdy has been pushing the case for no forced switchover date to the minister, along with York Central MP Hugh Bayley and Selby & Ainsty MP Nigel Adams.
Now a date for switchover to DAB radio will only be announced when digital listening makes up half of all radio listening hours, when DAB coverage is at the same level as FM and when more cars have DAB radios in them.
Chief Executive of the UKRD Group, William Rogers, which owns Minster FM is delighted.
