Police 7

11:48am 12th December 2013
(Updated 12:26pm 12th December 2013)

Police are appealing for information following a 2-in-1 burglary in York in which a white Audi A1 was stolen in the early hours of Thursday morning (12 December 2013).

At around 3.20am, say officers, the occupants of a property on Alma Terrace, York, were alerted to the break-in by their alarm and the noise of the car being driven off their drive.

At 11.40am today (12 December) a police officer found the white Audi at the junction of Elmfield Terrace and Straylands Grove in York. The car was undamaged.

They discovered burglars had entered their home by forcing their way through the back door before stealing a handbag, a laptop and the keys to the Audi parked outside, say police.

Three abandoned cycles were also found outside the property which police believe were used by the suspects.

Detectives are also investigating a suspicious incident at a neighbouring property around the same time, when the occupier reported three people in the garden of her home.

Officers carried out extensive searches to locate the vehicle and are examining CCTV in the area, however the vehicle has not yet been found.

To assist the investigation, officers are appealing to members of the public to contact them if they have any information.

Anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area overnight, or anyone who knows where the white Audi A1, YD11 YTU is now, is urged to contact the police without delay.

Anyone who can assist the investigation is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask for York CID. Or email YorkCID@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk

Alternatively, you can pass information anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
