Christmas Shoppers In Selby To Get Four Free Parking Days

Selby Town Centre

10:26am 26th November 2013

Selby District Council has announced free parking at all its pay and display car parks on Saturday 7 December to support a nation-wide initiative to help small businesses.

The move to support local businesses is in partnership with the Forum of Private Business - a national organisation that have organised Small Business Saturday - who approached the council for its support.

Free parking will also be available on Saturday 21 December, the last Saturday before Christmas. And on Christmas Eve (Tuesday 24 December) parking will be free for all those last minute presents and other essentials.

Selby District Council's Executive member for Communities, Cllr Chris Metcalfe, explained, "We recognise the important role small family-run businesses play in our towns and hope that this free parking will encourage local residents to shop locally.

"I think that this will be a real boost for our businesses in the run-up to Christmas and it is a very positive step we can take to support our retailers at their most important time of year.

"Our district has a lot to offer shoppers including a wide range of small independent shops alongside the bigger stores.  We want to bring visitors into the area and encourage residents to shop local too."
