Selby MP Calls York Lendal Bridge Trial "Lunacy"
6:46pm 13th November 2013
Selby's MP says York's Lendal Bridge trial is "lunacy".
A City of York Spokeswoman has responded by saying: “We’d like to thank Mr Adams for helping to raise awareness of the six-month Lendal Bridge trial and would encourage anyone who would like to feed back on the trial to go to www.york.gov.uk/citycentreimprovements<http://www.york.gov.uk/citycentreimprovements>.
“We have said from the outset that the purpose of the trial is to reduce traffic going over the bridge and through the city centre, as part of a long-term vision to create a more attractive and thriving city centre for us all. Doing nothing is not an option for York.
“To further assist, the council has recently launched a new online Journey Planner available at www.itravelyork.info<http://www.itravelyork.info> that provides tailored transport options for journeys in and around York at a touch of a button.”
It comes after the Chamber of Commerce announced it is also carrying out it's own survey into the Lendal Bridge trial.
Anyone who has a view on the experiment, whether they live in York or not, or are a Chamber member or business or not is asked to contact Susie Cawood on firstname.lastname@example.org
Deputy Council Leader Tracey Simpson-Laing has tweeted asking if the use of the word "lunatic" is appropriate language for an MP talking about a councillor and added:
"York has to move forward and change to survive. People [it] said [would be the] end when Deangate & Coney St closed yet [it] has worked."
