Open Air Gym Opens in Easingwold

A £9000 fitness suite with a difference has been completed in a small Hambleton village.
For the gym in Husthwaite near Easingwold is not only open all year round, it is open to the elements and it is free to use!
The ‘open air’ gym is part of a much wider project to promote physical fitness in the community – it includes a new play area and a multi use games area opened four years ago.
This latest addition to the village has been made possible thanks to £4800 from the LEADER fund through the Rural development Programme for England - which is jointly financed by Defra and the European Union.
“This scheme is the final element of a five year project to improve facilities in the village,” said Hambleton District Council’s Portfolio Holder, Councillor Nigel Knapton.
“It is a very exciting and innovative idea and gives local people the opportunity to work out without the expense of having to join a gym. Interestingly the equipment was requested by older residents – and it includes a rowing machine air skier and pedal bike. I certainly enjoyed trying them all out!”
