Countryside Crime Crackdown in Easingwold
3:47pm 25th October 2013
A new scheme to prevent crime and actively deter criminals from operating in rural areas has been launched.
‘Countrywatch’ warning signs will be appearing across Hambleton and Richmondshire – and will be handed out to landowners, farmers and in communities identified as potential hotspots.
Hambleton and Richmondshire Community Safety Partnership has joined forces with North Yorkshire Police to promote the new initiative, developed by PCSO Gavin Dobson of Richmond Safer Neighbourhood Team (pictured).
“There has recently been an increase in rural crime and in turn this has seen an increase in reports and observations of suspicious activity,” said Gavin.
“Local communities are now taking an active part in tackling this issue with prompt and detailed reports being passed to the Police. The warning signs have been created to act as a visual deterrent.”
And Councillor Carl Les, Chair of the Hambleton and Richmondshire Community Safety Partnership added: “We are all working together to reduce `rural crime` which has been identified not only by the partnership but by the Police and Crime Commissioner as a key priority for our area.”
