'£12 Million' Cost to Overturn Kirkbymoorside 'Wrong Button' Vote

Taxpayers in Ryedale could be left with a bill of up to £12 million after a councillor pressed the wrong button.

Conservative David Cussons voted to allow 210 new homes and 50 new flats to be built in Kirkbymoorside, but couldn't change his vote despite saying it was a mistake.

Kirkbymoorside Liberal councillor Sarah Ward is also against the plans.

A meeting tonight could overturn the vote, meaning compensation worth millions could be paid to developers Gladman.

Official papers put the cost at between £3-5 million but the Conservative Leader of Ryedale Council Linda Cowling has told Minster FM Gladman put the cost at £12 million, which would also involve a court battle.

Linda Cowling also says if the decision is overturned it could mean cuts to services, job losses and a massive council tax rise to pay it.
