Market Weighton, Pocklington and Stamford Bridge Oil Users Could Make Savings
6:01am 20th October 2013
People in Market Weighton, Pocklington and Stamford Bridge who use oil to heat their homes could save up to £125 pounds a year.
In partnership with East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Humber and Wolds Rural Community Council (HWRCC) is launching YORSwitch, Cheaper Heating Oil Together.
The scheme aims to save its members money through bulk-buying heating oil across East Riding communities.
Orders are placed monthly and members are able to order as often as they like. Using joint buying power, the council and HWRCC will negotiate for cheaper heating oil prices and pass the savings onto members, irrespective of the quantity of oil they order. Households, community buildings and businesses are all eligible to join.
YORSwitch is run on a community basis through local co-ordinators. The co-ordinator is responsible for collating orders in their community but does not handle any money. It’s a great way to help communities and save money at the same time. In recognition of their contribution, co-ordinators are entitled to free membership. If you are interested in taking up this opportunity, email email@example.com
To become a member, East Riding Council says that you simply complete a membership form and return to HWRCC with the annual membership fee. Interested residents can download a membership form from the website or contact by telephone to receive a form by post.
The council add that annual membership fees contribute towards covering the cost of administration for the scheme and are as follows:
* households £20
* community buildings £30
* businesses £100.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council say that new members are eligible to place an order in the same month they join the scheme, as long as they submit their application form and pay their membership fee two weeks before the ordering deadline. The minimum quantity that can be ordered per household is 500 litres.
The order deadline is the 28th of each month, but check with the local co-ordinator as it may be earlier in some communities, say the council.

YORSwitch Cheaper Heating Oil says it aims to cut the cost of heating bills. Similar schemes in other areas have achieved savings of up to 6p per litre. They add that savings depend on market forces and supply and demand, but all the savings will be passed onto members.
Penny Brown, chief executive, Humber and Wolds Rural Community Council, said: “The YORSwitch, Cheaper Heating Oil Together Scheme, run by HWRCC, has been set up to offer off-gas communities and their residents an opportunity to reduce their fuel bill through the savings that can be made by purchasing their oil as part of a large buying group.”
