York MP Calls For Flexible Working Hours For Grandparents
8:27am 16th October 2013
Grandparents in North Yorkshire who help to care for their grandchildren could soon get the right to flexible working hours.
Right now only parents and carers can get that- but after April next year grandparents could have the right to ask for flexible working too.
York Outer MP Julian Sturdy asked the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills what steps are being taken to introduce flexible working hours for grandparents who help to care for their grandchildren.
Jo Swinson the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills said that "Currently the right to request flexible working is only available to parents and carers, which excludes many grandparents, even those closely involved with caring for their grandchildren. This is why we intend to extend the right to request flexible working to all employees through the Children and Families Bill, Subject to Royal Assent we intend to roll out the extension from April 2014.”
York Outer MP Julian Sturdy is backing this and says it'll help get more parents back to work.
