Police in York Investigate Attempted Burglary

Police in York are investigating an attempted burglary which occurred before daybreak today.

The homeowner alerted officers to the scene on Grosvenor Road at 6.35am after an unknown man – described as white and wearing dark clothing - was disturbed while trying to gain access to the property through a ground floor bedroom window.

He ran off through the rear garden and a car was heard to drive away at speed.

An extensive area search was conducted in the effort to locate the suspect. House-to-house enquiries have also been carried out as well as forensic examinations at the scene.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward as a matter of urgency, particularly anyone who noticed any suspicious individuals or vehicles in the local area between 6am and 7am.
