York Fake Designer Headphone Trader Sentenced

4:20pm 27th September 2013

City of York Council has successfully prosecuted Nadir Haouache, aged 28, of Barkstone Avenue York of two offences of possessing counterfeit designer headphones and other goods in the course of business.

Yesterday, Haouache pleaded guilty to the charges and York magistrates sentenced him to a 12 months community order with 50 hours unpaid work. They also ordered him to pay £1,657.19 in costs and that the seized stock is forfeited to the council’s Trading Standards team for destruction.

Acting on information from the public, Trading Standards officers entered Haouche’s home on 12 June 2012 and seized 94 counterfeit Bose products. Genuine headphones made by this brand sell for hundreds of pounds, but these poor quality imitations were being sold via an internet shop trading under the name of Audiostation, for a fraction of the cost. A number of complaints had been made to Audiostation about the quality of these products.

Councillor Linsay Cunningham-Cross, City of YorkCouncil Member for Crime and Stronger Communities, said:The council wants consumers to be confident in goods sold in and from York and takes complaints about the sale of counterfeit goods very seriously.

Anyone with a complaint about the quality of products sold in the city is encouraged to complain to Trading Standards via the Citizens Advice Consumer helpline on 08454 040506.”
