Man Arrested by Police Investigating York Melrosegate Attack

An 18 year old man's been arrested by police investigating an attack on a York man in Melrosegate yesterday morning.

The 51 year old victim's in a critical condition with serious head injuries in Hull Royal Infirmary.

Officers are asking for three women who may have seen what happened to come forward.

Detective Inspector Alan Rowan, of York CID, said: “I need to talk to anyone who was in the area of Melrosegate or near its junction with Hull Road, and anyone who was on Lawrence Street, between midnight and 1.15am on Thursday morning and urge them to contact the police immediately.

“In particular I am keen to trace a group of three women who I believe may have witnessed the assault and ask that they get in touch straight away.”

Anyone who can assist detectives to identify the person responsible should contact York police away on 101, select option 2 and ask for York CID. Alternatively information can be emailed to yorkcid@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk.
