A group of local family lawyers and members of Resolution in West Yorkshire have donated £500 to the York Child Contact Service.
The York Child Contact centre has been open since September 2004. Last year they offered contact sessions to over fifty families and over 100 children many of whom were going through court proceedings. The supported service is led by supervised service staff in conjunction with a team of 20 volunteers. The centre offers support to both resident and non resident parents as well as children. It relies on donations to provide help fund its activities and without which Centre Manager; Jane Bramwell says that they would certainly have to close the supervised service.
Jane said ‘I would just like to thank Resolution members for their wonderful donation of £500 which will be used to purchase new equipment and art and craft materials for the children using the Service. We struggle with funding generally and therefore often do not have the finances to purchase such items, having to focus on running costs. I am sure that the children will give me some ideas of how they would like me to spend the money, although DS games are out!!’
“The Committee was unanimous in wanting to provide funds raised to the Child contact service in York”, said James Thornton Press Officer for the North and West Yorkshire Resolution committee and Partner at Stowe Family Law LLP, Harrogate. “It is such a worthwhile organisation and, whilst court proceedings should be the last resort between families, the Centre provides a vital and often overlooked service to the wider court users of both the civil and criminal courts”.
