CCTV Images Released After Suspected York Sex Attack

Police investigating a suspected sexual assault in York have released CCTV images of a man who they need to trace.

The incident occurred at around 1.45am on Thursday 13 June 2013, when a woman was approached by a man as she was walking along Heslington Road towards the university.

The woman screamed when the suspect assaulted her.

He then ran off through the grounds of St Lawrence’s C of E Primary School.

He is described as white, approximately 30 years old, about 5ft 9in tall, chubby build, short-thinning, dark-brown hair and a full dark-brown beard. At the time he was wearing thin framed and slightly oval shaped glasses.

Detective Sergeant Alan Rowan, of York CID, said: “I am appealing for the man in the CCTV footage to come forward as soon as possible to assist the investigation.

“We need to speak to him in relation to the incident, if only to eliminate him from the inquiry.

“If anyone knows who he is or where we can find him, please do the right thing and contact the police without delay.  If you would prefer not to give your name, information can be passed to the independent charity Crimestoppers.”
