Number of Arrests in North Yorkshire Summer Drink Drive Crackdown Hits 57

4:47pm 19th June 2013

North Yorkshire Police is continuing the campaign against drink and drug drivers in the summer crackdown.

Officers have now arrested 57 people on suspicion of drink or drug driving since the campaign began on 1 June 2013, and will continue patrolling the county’s roads to stop other offenders putting lives at risk.

Traffic Sergeant Pete Stringer, of North Yorkshire Police, said: “There is no excuse for driving under the influence of drink or drugs. The majority of the public know this and are giving us valuable information about the irresponsible minority, so that we can get them off the roads.

“If you make the reckless decision to risk it, we will be looking for you. Given the number of arrests we have already made, there is every chance you will be caught.”

“People who know they are going to have a drink should do the sensible thing, and make alternative arrangements for getting home, walk, get a taxi or use public transport.”

If you would like to report someone you suspect of driving while under the influence of drink or drugs, contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 – select option 1 – and pass information to the Force Control Room.

If you wish to remain anonymous, Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111.
