Since our relauch we have added a range of home blended teas, jams, chutneys & home cooked treats like brownies and cakes.
Why Should They Win?
Despite the mass majority of people buying their bread from the supermarkets we have proven that unique handmade artisan bread can survive, and thrive. We serve a local and tourist audience with fresh bread and treats our new range of home blend teas has proved popular, and sells well not only instore but in other outlets we supply around York. St Leonard's Hospice
About Them
St Leonard's Hospice is an independent charity, providing specialist palliative care and support for local people with life limiting illnesses. The Hospice is made up of an In-patient Unit, Sunflower Centre and Hospice@Home service. Every patient is recognised and treated as an individual, and as a result are able to enjoy the best possible quality of life. Care also extends to support families and carers. St Leonard's care is free of charge to patients and their families but not free to provide. As a charity they rely heavily on the generosity of the public to raise over £5.2 million each year that it takes to run St Leonard's Hospice. This equates to £595 for every hour of every day. The St Leonard's charity shops help raise around half a million every year which is absolutely crucial in funding patient care at the Hospice. The St Leonard's Hospice charity shop on Fossgate in York opened on 22nd August 2017 and, as well as raising vital funds for St Leonard's, has been a significant part of the Fossgate community ever since. The shop couldn't run without the loyal support of 20 active volunteers.
Why Should They Win?
At first glance, you perhaps wouldn't realise that the St Leonard's Hospice charity shop on Fossgate in York is a charity shop at all. The shop fit itself was something of an experiment, with the hospice retail team working tirelessly to create something unique. With the exception of some metal racking, all shop fittings were created by hand using second hand furniture and donated goods. The shop counter is made from old bed slats and the shelving is made from recycled tables. The shop is very active within the community, taking part in the monthly Fossgate festivals. It also seems to be a great place for some celebrity spotting, as visitors have included TV's Versailles star Alexander Vlahos and Laurence Fox who was filming for ITV's Victoria in the neighbouring Merchant Adventurer's Hall. The shop was the first city centre charity shop for St Leonard's Hospice, and managing to get a shop on Fossgate has given us the opportunity to be part of a mutually beneficial community where everyone supports each other. There is something for everyone in the shop, with stock being refreshed regularly and something to suit all tastes and budgets.
