About:
What do writers such as Winifred Holtby, Philip Larkin, the Bronte sisters and Ted Hughes have in common? They have all drawn upon the landscape, history and cultural identity of Yorkshire in their novels and poems. Looking at 'South Riding', 'The Whitsun Weddings', 'Wuthering Heights' and 'The Remains of Elmet', this course will explore some of the themes in their writing and ways in which these themes are influenced by and helped to shape a Yorkshire literary landscape. There will also be some discussion of other writers who have drawn inspiration from Yorkshire with suggestions for further reading.
