We offer a food and drinks menu that is suitable for adults and children, with options for varying dietary requirements and preferences. We offer catering and/or venue for local projects and events, strongly supporting our local artists, providing free wall space for the exhibition of their work. We work closely with York college, taking on internship students on the professional cookery and front of house service courses, providing a training and experience venue.

Why Should You Win?

As quite a new business, it would be brilliant for us to make such a name for ourselves so early on, creating a standard for us to continue rising from. This award would also benefit our immediate locality on Bishopthorpe Road, boosting not only our confidence but the confidence of our locals and regulars that have taken strongly to us and shown us limitless support in our new adventure. It would also affect our wider locality, attracting attention to other like-minded community focused businesses, and awareness of the brilliant suppliers we use.

Costello's Bakery & Coffee House

All available to take home or relax in store and couple with a perfectly prepared coffee, tea or hot chocolate! Open every day of the week.

Why Should You Win?

We strive for excellence so that our customers love what we do! We'd love to gain recognition for the huge efforts that everyone at Costello's put in each day the make sure we stay one of the best local food producers in Yorkshire. Vote for us!

Hovingham Bakery and Rolling Pin Cafe

Hovingham Bakery & The Rolling Pin Cafe is based in Hovingham. A small quiet countryside village in North Yorkshire. We would like to offer a traditional country cafe with a Swedish twist. Our philosophy is to serve freshly baked breads, sweet and savoury treats and light lunch dishes with both Swedish and British influence in a relaxed friendly atmosphere. We pride ourselves on what we serve and of course happy customers.

Why Should You Win?

We should win because; we are leading the fight in bringing real bread back to the nation whilst giving it a refreshing Swedish twist.

The Balloon Tree Famrshop & Cafe

The Balloon Tree is a family run Farmshop & Cafe that has been trading for nearly 15 years. The Balloon Tree's Cafe endeavours to provide top quality food complimented by a high level of service. We use locally sourced ingredients from local farms, butchers and retailers in addition to our own farms produce. Even the staff are locally sourced. All this local produce allows us to strucutre a menu that displays the best food the region has to offer. This includes an in house bakery that creates our diverse cakes display. The popularity and increased volume of customers has necessitated the business to extend twice in the past 10 years. However, despite dramatic changes in the number of visitors, we have ensured that quality of service has not been affected. We have a customer base of regular returning trade as well as others who come further a feild just for a piece of our notorious roulade. As well as being an excellent spot for alfresco dining our outdoor seating allows a safe environement for families to eat while the little ones run off steam on our childrens play area.

Why Should You Win?

To win this award would mean a lot to both the business and the staff who work here. An award that is decided by Minster FMs listeners would be paramount in displaying to future and current customers that we are a business that is customer focused as opposed to an award decided by a panel of judges. It would also reassure and reiterate to the staff what a superb job they are doing and motivate them to carry on at their already high level. Being on the outskirts of York, we're often overlooked as a place for a great breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea. But by winning this award it would help put us on the map in terms of confirming that we're worth the trip.

The Wentworth Restaurant

The Talbot Hotel, Malton has long been an important hotel serving both locals and visitors to the area. The building was originally under monastic ownership. In 1739 it was purchased by Sir Thomas Wentworth, ancestor of the Fitzwilliam/Naylor-Leyland families. Having fallen into disrepair under lease, the Fitzwilliam Estate (Naylor-Leyland) took over the grade II* listed building in 2011. Over £4m was invested to provide a quality 26 bedroom hotel serving outstanding food. The Talbot offers contemporary British cooking delivering delicious food throughout whether you are dining in the Bar and Brasserie or the Wentworth Restaurant. We champion the use of fresh produce from local suppliers and our seasonal menus are created by Head Chef Dan Graham. Expect a journey of exciting flavours and textures showcasing the best of Yorkshire produce. The Wentworth Restaurant, which has 2 AA rosettes, serves a 5 course tasting menu and a 9 course tasting menu, giving the diner a wonderful journey through the products and food of Yorkshire, each course designed to showcase the best the region has to offer. It also has an a la carte menu available.

Why Should You Win?

The Wentworth Restaurant should win the best cafe/restaurant award because we believe as a team that the experiences people have, from far and wide, whilst dining with us is something to be proud of for Malton. The development of a fine-dining restaurant at the hotel aided putting Malton on the map as a foodie destination, and the hotel invested in James Martin as the celebrity chef for a three-year opening contract. We have impacted the local economy by raising the profile of the town, increasing visitor numbers to come and visit to try out the food in our restaurant at Yorkshire's food capital.

It would mean so much to receive an award like this and be able to take our business to the next level.
