Why Should You Win?

We love Whitby, the North York Moors and the fantastic coast here in North Yorkshire; not only that we love what we do, meeting new people, making friends and encouraging visitors to try out all the wonderful things this area has to offer! We support local businesses, using local tradesmen and suppliers for locally sourced produce for our award winning breakfasts.

The Principal York

In the heart of the city with views of the Minster The Principal York, steps from the train station, is the perfect base from which to discover the historic city of York. Blending the grandeur of late-Victorian architecture with the comforts of modern travel, The Principal York offers its guests the warmest welcome this side of the Pennines. Award-winning interior architects Goddard Littlefair have refurbished and restored the hotel’s rooms and public spaces to create 155 elegant, comfortable bedrooms and suites in balanced, neutral tones that offer more than just a place to sleep.

Why Should You Win?

The Principal York is reviving a local icon and of the UK’s most significant and historical railway hotels with our new wave of ‘Great’ British hospitality. We are proud of our location with our award-winning design and we are proud of our people who share our vision of modern service and classic values. We’ve been working not only to put our hotel on the map, but also York and Yorkshire as a destination. Don’t take our word for it……. Here’s just some reasons from our guests: On arrival we were treated like really valued clients, something unfortunately missing in many hotels. In fact all the staff here are by miles the best we have ever come across, you really feel you are their only guest.’ 17/06/17 ‘A warm welcome was extended, the porter taking time to tell us about the hotel and its facilities... The Principal has had a multi million £ makeover and looks beautiful… the complimentary "tuck box" is a nice touch… We would recommend this hotel not least as it as you would hope friendly and stylish and proud to be Proper Yorkshire.’ 01/07/

Talbot Hotel

The Talbot Hotel has recently been fully restored. Classic British design now meets traditional values of comfort and unobtrusive service for an elegant hotel with 26 bedrooms, landscaped gardens and a great restaurant.

We are in the heart of the North Yorkshire market town of Malton, 20 minutes from the city of York. Visitors here are spoilt for choice. Compiling a list of 101 things to do proved easy. You won't, of course, have time to do all of these things in a single stay - so there is only one on which we insist: relax and let us look after you.

Why should you win?

We believe that the Talbot Hotel should win the award for “Best Place to Stay” due to our passion and dedication to providing a memorable experience to our guests - we are small in size but large in vision!  To do this, we have made considerable financial investment into the business:  Since reopening the 26 bedroom hotel in 2012 we have continued to develop and grow; opening Malton Cookery School and a second restaurant (“Malton Brasserie”), and the new exciting development - York House wedding venue.  Over the years the hotel has been central to the development of Malton as a town tourist attraction and “Yorkshire’s Food Capital”, promoting visits not only to the hotel, but the town and Yorkshire as a whole.  Our team go the extra mile to make a guest visit special, and the consistently positive feedback makes us hope that we might be recognised with an award also!
