| Louisa Maher brings North Yorkshire the news that matters every weekday morning. I first got interested in radio when I was about 11 and my friend and I recorded our own radio show on a tape player - I don't remember laughing so much and decided that was my calling. The first time I went in a radio station I was about 14 in my home town of Plymouth. I kept trying to get work experience at a local station, eventually I think the receptionist was sick of seeing me and agreed to give me a week of work. I had a go at all sides of the industry but loved my full day on news. I even got to interview someone, which was brave of the team there. That day got my news-hound blood going, so when I was a little older I started at hospital radio. I had my own show and eventually went on to study Film, Television and Radio Studies at Staffordshire university. |
| Uni was great, and all the time I was working at different radio stations in the area, making sure I kept my foot in any door that would have me. After getting my 2:1 degree I moved up to York and started working at Minster FM on a casual basis. That was back in 2008 but I went on to get my first journalism job over at our sister station, Yorkshire Coast Radio. I lived in sunny Scarborough for a year and then returned to my radio roots back here at Minster FM. I love traveling and clearly love radio - so when I'm not at work I'll normally be driving, going to see my family and friends, planning a trip away or working out how to fit in a holiday, while listening to the radio. I like all kinds of music, my iPod is so diverse many people would worry if they borrowed it, but the random function always makes for an interesting listen. At school the main moan from teachers was about my chatter - that was a theme in all my reports and parents evenings. So it's not really surprising I ended up doing it for a living. Best bit of my career so far was seeing the Queen - I didn't get to talk to her, but it was great all the same. |
